The making of a smile
An open smile can be very tricky to get to look good and that was the main reason I made this painting. As so many other times when I paint it’s a part of my practice and to push my own limits a bit further in what hopefully is the right direction.
There’s a lot more color in this painting of Colin Morgan than the drawing I posted earlier here. I still put a lot of focus on his eyes even though the smile was my main reason for this. As I said earlier, eyes are very important to get right since they can either make a portrait fall flat or they can lift a face into recognition.
