The making of Donna Summer
I was a big fan of Donna Summer when I was younger and during the short time period that disco was alive and blooming. The reference photo for this painting must have been taken in the 80′s or similar, but she still looks pretty much the same.
The hair in this painting was very time consuming to paint and difficult too. I had to break it all down to highlights and shadows to start with and then paint the other shades in between those two later. And since hair is rarely only in one or two colors, this took a while. But it was still fun to do ![]()
Her skin might look a bit too perfect, but the truth is that she had that kind of smooth skin. The reference photo is old and way before Photoshop was invented, so if any editing was done it was using make-up before the shoot and some retouch later on. But definitely no retouching the way they do it these days. And it looked the same since I first saw it a long time ago.
