The making of Zsa Zsa Gabor
Zsa Zsa Gabor belongs to the big divas of Hollywood and the stars during the golden era. I painted this around the same time as I painted Bette Davis portrait. I was in the middle of a black and white period myself, and I love everything about the 1930′s – 1940′s, so it was a natural choice.
What I added to this painting that was not a part of the reference photo was the red dots in her dress. I wanted to give it something that it didn’t already have, but without overdoing it. Not a lot of things you can add to a portrait of Zsa Zsa Gabor that will fit in with the original without destroying it. Which was why I gave the dress a bit of color.
Progress pictures are below.
