The Release – setting the mood

I realized earlier that this looks as if I’m painting Tina Turner’s unknown daughter who got lost in the woods :p Which is not the case really, but it was the hair style that gave me those associations. Or maybe she snatched on of Tina Turner’s wigs ;)

In any case, I’m still painting her hair. And I’m setting the mood a bit more by painting the stone she’s leaning onto. That is in a very basic stage with only the first layer of shadows and highlights added. The overall background and surroundings will be fairly dark, but with some sun rays shining through in the back. Those big mushrooms behind her will cast a big shadow on the ground floor, but whatever is growing a bit higher up will have hints of the sunlight.

I also decided to leave her without any clothes. Somehow it didn’t rhyme with the setting and her loneliness at that stone. The hair will cover a big part of her shoulders when I’m done since I want it to look as if she haven’t had a haircut in quite some time. In the end I will also paint some details in the hair, like pins and needles from the trees.

More about this a bit later. And click the image for a larger version as usual :)
